Back in the day, Dunn Pearson Jr. played “Love Train” on the keyboard with the O’Jays before 20,000 fans at Madison Square Garden.
This past Sunday, he was at the keyboards at Hamden Plains United Methodist Church playing “Cry Me a River” at worship services.
The venues, the gigs differed. Pearson saw a link.
“It’s the same,” he suggested during an appearance Wednesday on WNHH FM’s “Dateline New Haven”: “You’re still trying to make a connection with your audience.”

DUNN PEARSON ON EDDIE LEVERT SR. (O'JAYS) ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAMER

November 15, 2018

EDDIE LEVERT SR.- GREATEST OF ALL TIME VOCALIST.

In preparation for The Black Beethoven Project study shows that Mr. Edward “Eddie” Levert (O’JAYS) is the greatest baritone vocalist ever in his era, field and genre. Notwithstanding my obvious bias, Mr. Levert scored high in range, tone resonance, trajectory and rhythmic accuracy. As evidenced by the example (If I Find Love Again) at @4:21 Mr.Levert executes a flawless note (B4) which citing Yale University Library (Vocal Ranges) is an astonishing 3 1/2 full steps above the average baritone range. Coupled with the fact that this note is considered “money notes”, Mr. Levert has made a career of pleasing audiences with his spectacular range and consistent power of execution.

BOTTOM LINE: Eddie Levert Sr. can hit those Smokey Robinson notes with the power of the traditional gospel church resonance of James Cleveland.
